TROLLOP FEST 2001 - Sonoma, California

We managed to stagger home with Kay being a total embarrassment by yelling "Timmae!" in the hallways. When we got into the room, Steph put on the hair and began channeling Rizzo from Grease and singing "Sandra Dee." Omigawd. It was frightening - we've never seen her like this!

"The POWER of the Hair!" - Sarah
"I'm going to put this away somewhere safe, like the Ark of the Covenant. Thank God this hair wasn't on the spyplane." - LJJ & Sarah after the hair possessed Steph
Kay: "Shut up, shut up, shut up!"
Sarah or Laurie: "Funny has been called at 11:47."
Steph: "I bought funny on margin. I'm hosed!"

We were a little slower the next morning (funny that). The hair tried to possess the Maria von Trapp Rubber Chicken and the cocktail sunglasses, but we stopped that. We had breakfast, repacked (all that wine!) and checked out.

We drove north past Santa Rosa and eventually found Arrowood winery. Another busload o'tourists were there, but they were herded out to the patio so we found space at the tasting bar - nice dessert wines and Rieslings.

Second Stop: Ridge Winery where we tried their yummy red Zinfandels. They also had a great Cabernet (Monte Bello) but it was over $100 - ouch!

"Oh I feel sorry for where we're going." - LJJ
"Don't count on me to have any taste." - LJJ

Third stop: Mazzacco. Their wines weren't as rich as Ridge, but much lower priced. They also had some cute shirts and other wine-related stuff.

Fourth Stop: Dry Creek. This was the best! We stayed there for an hour and a half and the tasting room staff were truly sorry to see us leave. We almost got Steph married off to Frank Dice, one of the staff, and they gave us Fume Blanc mustard as wedding gifts. It was too funny!

Re: Steph's Green Card - "We have a whole cellar full of people like you." - Mark, the Hungarian hippie at Dry Creek
"Scorpio sign: Sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, kill, sex, sex, sex." - Mark
"If we're going to get married you're going to get at least a 20% discount." - Frank Dice, Dry Creek
"One marriage at a time!" - Frank Dice
Steph the Wine Slut - "Don't talk about my wife that way!" - Frank Dice
"You're the tasty creamy middle." - Sarah (ref: the Single Women Sandwich of Steph and Kay between the married beauties)
Dry Creek Vineyards "Ferretage" - a mocked up bottle of Meritage wine with picture of the little rodents with little cigarettes
"There goes the entertainment," unknown wine taster at Dry Creek as we left

We went to Healdsburg and found yet another Mexican Restaurant for lunch. Looked like a dive but it was really good. We did a little shopping and then began our drive back to San Francisco. Laurie wanted to go back to Dry Creek.

"You can't go back, then we'll look as desperate as we are." - Kay
"Dammit Landscaping?" - Kay, re: sign reading "Summit Landscaping"

We stopped at J Vineyards as we left the area. They offered a tasting for $8, but we got three wines matched with yummy little appetizers. Even though we'd just eaten, they were very good. Steph checked out their conference facilities - go Steph!

We made it back to the airport and got Sarah and Laurie checked in. We stayed with Sarah for a while at her gate, then took Laurie over to hers. Steph and I had about three hours before our flight back to Philly, so we checked in and went shopping in the International terminal. We had a nice sushi dinner - very good and fresh, especially for an airport restaurant.

Our flight was uneventful, and we arrived in Philly at oh-dark-hundred a.m. Poor Steph's connection to Ithaca was cancelled, so she missed her lecture.

We're already planning Trollop Fest 2002 - Bonnie Boo and Sonya HAVE to come this time! Until then, here is the Trollop Fest Theme Song:

Gonna drink all day,
Da da da da da da da,
And we think he's gay!"
