Hooray for Hollywood!

For years I have said that I don’t like to watch movies. I will admit that I am not a big fan of going to the movie theaters with the seats that are too high, the sticky coke on the floor and the music that is too loud. Also, there are no bathroom breaks or let’s get another cup of coffee breaks.

I mentioned to my daughter that I loved movies that have food in them. Mmmm tells me that I should never to say anything to Kay about something I like or would like to have because soon there is a box from Amazon or a delivery person at the door. It is true. I look around the house and so many of the things that I use constantly or that make my life easier or are just a sheer pleasure have come from Kay. What a girl! (She must have been raised well!)

Anyway, last year I kept talking about the fact that I enjoy movies with food in them. Not necessarily about food but with food featured, so naturally, Kay and Gary gave me a year’s subscription to Netflix. I have loved it and we watch lots and lots of movies now. Netflix is slowing down its delivery schedule to me because, as Kay says, they aren’t making any money on me.

I went on line and Googled Food Movies. I came up with a list of 38 movies. Unfortunately, many are foreign films so you must stay alert while watching. Some are really poor and some are just wonderful such as Babette’s Feast and What’s Cooking? I haven’t seen them all and we have watched a lot of films that aren’t about food. I may have to have Kay put a movie review section on my blog.

I like documentaries and comedies and dramas. If the language is just terrible or they are very violent I find them hard to watch. I don’t really care for animated movies or horror movies. I can overlook some bad language and if you are watching a foreign film it seems there are almost always requisite sex scenes. I can overlook those unless it gets too graphic. We often like films that are a little different. Here are some movies we have liked:

Into the Arms of Strangers: Stories of the Kinder Transport – We loved this one
Mad Hot Ballroom
The Constant Gardner
Beyond the Gates of Splendor
Born Into Brothels
Amistad
March of the Penguins
Hotel Ruanda

We have watched about 125 films this year and have 187 on our list. Do you think we will see them all? I have lost my crown as a movie snob . . I am now a movie junkie.
