I got home this afternoon and had a message from Jennifer. "Auntie Kay," she said, "Just calling to let you know that 'Chuck' has arrived, and he is indeed a 'Chuck'."

[During Jennifer's pregnancy they decided not to learn the sex of the baby, so I gave the baby a temporary nickname of "Chuck" after a reinsurer we know.]

So, Ethan William Conger was born at 11:30 a.m. today, weighing in at 8 pounds, 8 ounces and requiring ten hours of hard labor. Jennifer left me a message around 1:30 this afternoon - only two hours later! I called her cell phone around 3:45 and spoke with both Jen and John and certainly got to hear Ethan in the background. Both mother and son are doing fine.

[Nice pair of lungs on young Master Conger.]

Also had a message from Mom and Dad. They're in Washington state and spent last night at Jeff and Lucia's house with all of the local cousins. It sounds like it was a wonderful evening.

I went skating again today - think I may have overdone it yesterday as I was tired and not skating in very good form. I was practicing my stops and fell, scraping my knee in the same place that I beat up last week. Oh well, I guess it's like everything - it takes time and practice.

[Baby steps.]
