Sitting on the couch this morning when all of a sudden I felt a wave of vertigo. It felt like the whole pier was moving. It wasn't until I spoke to a friend later than I found out that there was an earthquake on the east coast!

"An earthquake felt from Maine to Delaware, including throughout the Delaware Valley, rattled the Northeast Saturday morning with a preliminary magnitude measured at 5.1. The earthquake hit just before 7:00AM and was centered about 15 miles southwest of Plattsburgh, in northern New York near the Vermont and Canadian borders."

[Winter weather AND earthquakes? Remind me again why I live here?]

Mom wrote that we have some good news about my cousin Carol. It appears that they only found cancer in one ovary, and that none of the other organs were affected. It is such a vicious type of cancer, so we'll take good news anywhere we can find it.

I went to the warehouse yesterday afternoon and sat down with Barry. I went over the problems in the warehouse and explained my situation and told him that I needed to make a change. I don't know how thrilled he is about it, but at least it's done. Oscar starts work on Monday - he and Richard met today to go over the schedule for the project. I imagine I'll actually see some progess when I get back from New Guinea!

I went skating this morning - it was the first time I could go out skating in shorts since last fall. Beautiful day, and it was so nice to get out. This afternoon I spent time on the couch with Alien. I'm speeding through my book, The Lust Lizard of Melancholy Cove. Very funny.

Went to dinner with my friend John tonight. We went to a place called Swanky Bubbles in Old City. Asian influenced champagne bar - I thought it was pretty tasty. We had fried calamari, pad thai, crab cakes, and chicken satay, along with a bottle of Veuve Clicquot champagne. I also liked the waiter, although John thought he was annoying.

I picked up my mail on the way home. My client, Maura, sent me the most adorable card - it's entitled The Little Book of Cat Wisdom. My favorites:

"When the going gets tough, the tough find a sunny spot by the window."
"Better to have napped and been disturbed, than never to have napped at all."
"To err is human. (Like, duh.)"

Maura wrote: "Alien had all this wisdom and so much more. I know you will miss her. Hang in there. XOXO."

[Now you know why I call her the Client From Heaven.]
