sleep - no, seriously this time

Thursday, 28 March, 2002

There are only a few people in the world that cause me to switch TV stations just to avoid hearing them speak. And I'm doing better with Al Gore, probably because he shaved off the beard. So I guess it's really only ONE person that causes me to cringe and reach for the remote when I see him open his mouth:

Jesse Jackson.

This from Fox News:
WASHINGTON The Rev. Jesse Jackson is contemplating involvement in the Israeli-Palestinian dispute and has had "private conversations" with both sides about the possibility, according to Jackson's Rainbow Push Coalition office.

Jackson initiated the idea and the telephone conversations with the two sides, according to sources familiar with the conversations.

State Department officials said the department has not been informed about Jackson's offer and reacted skeptically about whether it would really happen.

They can't control private citizens' travel but they can certainly "suggest" to the parties that any involvement in mediation efforts aside from that being offered by the Bush administration right now would not be appreciated, State Department sources said.

Last time Jackson was seeking a role in an overseas conflict with the Taliban he called Secretary of State Colin Powell to discuss it. It was never revealed how Powell responded to Jackson's idea, but Jackson's diplomatic role did not come to fruition.

[Heh.]

I'd love to know how Powell responded to Jackson's idea. Actually, I think he should go. Maybe they will finally get a peace accord on the table - IF ONLY TO GET RID OF HIM!!

I realize that "Sleep" was on my to-do list yesterday but I didn't do a very good job of it. I was awake at 4:00 and never got back to sleep. Bleary-eyed today, with everyone coming in and saying "What's wrong with your eyes?"

[Now I know how Alien feels.]
